Hiking.
The East Gate at km 55.8 of Highway 60 in Whitney is the access point for the Park's east-side day-hike network. Lookout Trail at km 39.7, Booth's Rock Trail at km 40.3, Two Rivers Trail at km 31, and Beaver Pond Trail at km 45.2 — all reached by driving west from the gate — make up the canonical Highway 60 Corridor day-hike inventory.
Track and Tower Trail near Mew Lake adds a longer day-hike option mid-corridor.
The brief.
These are short-to-moderate day hikes — most are loops between roughly 1 km and 7 km, well-marked, and family-accessible. The Park interior has longer backcountry routes, but the Highway 60 day-hike trails are what most visitors arriving through the East Gate actually walk on.
A daily Park vehicle permit is required to access any of the Highway 60 trailheads. Black-fly season runs late May through mid-June and bites are concentrated on shaded forest sections; peak hiking comfort is July through October.
Trail conditions are wet and rooted in Canadian Shield terrain — light boots are sensible.
