Port Perry's Victorian-era downtown is a Township-designated Heritage Conservation District anchored on Queen Street — the commercial spine running west from the Lake Scugog lakefront. Restored 19th-century brick storefronts, cast-iron street lamps, and the Old Grain Mill (1874) at the lakefront define the streetscape.
The Port Perry Waterfront Trail runs about 5 km along Lake Scugog from the marina through Palmer Park.
The brief.
Most of Port Perry's central walking is flat, paved or boardwalked, and concentrated on the downtown grid between Queen Street and the lakefront. The Heritage Conservation District designation extends across the Victorian commercial core; Queen Street runs west from the lake up the gentle Port Perry hill.
The Waterfront Trail starts at the marina and Palmer Park and runs along the south basin of Lake Scugog with views toward Scugog Island. The Scugog Shores Museum Village is a separate short heritage-village walk on the lakeshore.
Year-round on the Waterfront Trail; May through October is the easiest window for the downtown core.
