Hiking.
Durham East Cross Forest, a Kawartha Region Conservation Authority conservation area in Scugog Township on the Oak Ridges Moraine, runs over 7 km of marked sustainable trails — including the 1.7 km Blair Martyn Memorial Trail and the 2.3 km South Forest Loop — through kame and kettle forest with two trailheads. North of Port Perry, the Nonquon Crown Lands network on Scugog Line 10 and Line 12 carries boardwalks across the Nonquon River wetland.
Inside town, the Port Perry Waterfront Trail adds about 5 km of flat lakeshore walking.
The brief.
The Oak Ridges Moraine terrain at Durham East Cross Forest is rolling rather than rugged — sand-and-gravel kame and kettle hills under a mature mixed forest, rebuilt after years of off-road-vehicle damage by Kawartha Conservation. Two trailheads access the network: 4560 Devitt's Road on the north side and 4531 Boundary Road on the south.
KRCA parking is $4 including HST per vehicle per day, or $96.05 including HST for an annual pass that covers all Kawartha Conservation conservation areas. The Nonquon Crown Lands trails on Line 10 and Line 12 are unattended Crown-land routes through marsh and riverside forest; expect boardwalks across the Nonquon riverbank.
The Port Perry Waterfront Trail runs flat along the Lake Scugog shoreline from the marina past Palmer Park.
