Snow Adventure.
Hiawatha Highlands grooms 9 km of dedicated fat-bike trails inside the Crystal Creek and Kinsmen Park area and another 9 km of snowshoe trails parallel to the ski network — built and maintained by the Sault Cycling Club on the bike side. Down at the Sault Canal NHS, Parks Canada offers winter fat-bike rentals on the canal grounds, putting two distinct fat-bike experiences inside the city: groomed singletrack at Hiawatha and flat heritage-grounds spinning on South St.
Marys Island.
The brief.
Three different snow surfaces converge on Sault Ste. Marie.
Hiawatha Highlands runs the 9 km of groomed fat-bike singletrack and 9 km of snowshoe trail; the Sault Canal NHS adds flat fat-biking on the canal grounds with rentals on site; and Sault Ste. Marie is a major OFSC snowmobile hub with trails radiating north into Algoma.
Lake-effect snow off Lake Superior holds the season December through March, with grooming continuing later than most of southern Ontario. The Hiawatha fat-bike network sits inside SSMRCA-managed land; OFSC trails operate under provincial OFSC pass requirements.
