Cycling.
The John Rowswell Hub Trail closes a 25 km paved non-motorized loop through seven signed sections — Downtown Waterfront, Historic District, East Neighbourhood, Finn Hill, Northern Corridor, Fort Creek, and Carmen's Way — that strings the St. Marys River waterfront, Bellevue Park, Roberta Bondar Park, Algoma University, Sault College, the hospital, and Fort Creek Conservation Area onto a single ride.
Hubtrail.com lists 22.5 km; the City's official figure is 25 km.
The brief.
Hub Trail is non-motorized only — cycling, skating, walking, wheelchair — and flat across most of its length, which makes it a textbook urban-loop ride for any fitness level. The Sault Canal NHS extends the riverside cycling on flat paved grounds between the heritage buildings and the lock, with fat-bike rentals available on site.
Sault Ste. Marie is a documented node on the Voyageur Cycling Route and a recognized stop on the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail.
Best season is May through October, when the Hub Trail surfaces are clear and the Canal NHS visitor centre is open. The 22.5 km vs 25 km figure depends on whether spurs are included — both are official.
