Cycling.

The 22 km Rotary Greenway Trail carries paved cycling along the Otonabee River from Lock 19 at Trent University past the Peterborough Lift Lock through downtown to Lakefield — a flat riverside spine and the easiest entry point to cycling in the city. East of Peterborough, the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail runs roughly 52 km on a former Canadian Pacific Railway corridor to Hastings.

01 — What to know

The brief.

The Rotary Greenway Trail is non-motorized and almost entirely flat — paved through most of its 22 km. The Kawartha TCT is a former CPR rail-trail corridor with multi-use surface; the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail Association is the volunteer steward.

Together with the Trans Canada Trail through Northumberland and Hastings counties, the Peterborough cycling network connects east into the broader Trans Canada system. Best season is May through October on both surfaces.
