Walking & Strolling.
Harrison Park runs 100 acres of Sydenham River valley through downtown Owen Sound, with the Mile Drive trail looping through gardens, the fenced deer park, and the riverbank — the regional anchor for an unhurried valley walk. Across town, Kelso Beach Park anchors the western Georgian Bay shoreline at the city's edge, and the limestone Victorian downtown core links the inner harbour to the Tom Thomson Art Gallery on a flat walking grid.
The brief.
Most of the walking is flat, paved or graded, and concentrated in three places: Harrison Park's Mile Drive along the Sydenham River, the downtown limestone heritage grid between the inner harbour and the gallery, and Kelso Beach Park on the western Georgian Bay shoreline. The Tom Thomson Trail carries a multi-use spine through the city, connecting outward to the surrounding township network.
May through October is the easiest window; the downtown grid is comfortable year-round. Harrison Park's deer park and gardens are open daily; the campground operates seasonally.
The lake-effect snowbelt brings heavy winter snowfall — surfaces vary in winter, but the core stays walkable.
