Nature & Discovery.
Hibou Conservation Area sits on the Georgian Bay shoreline northeast of downtown — Grey Sauble Conservation Authority's closest birding shore inside Owen Sound's scope. Harrison Park downtown adds a Sydenham River-valley birding corridor through the city plus a fenced deer park as a daily nature-interpretation anchor a short walk from the inner harbour.
The brief.
Owen Sound's nature product splits between the Sydenham River valley downtown (Harrison Park) and the Georgian Bay shoreline at Hibou. Spring (April–May) brings waterfowl and migrants through the harbour and river mouth; mid-September through mid-October brings raptor migration across the surrounding escarpment, visible from Bruce Trail Sydenham viewpoints around the city.
Primary regional birding anchors — Bognor Marsh's boardwalk-and-tower wetland, Skinner's Bluff escarpment-edge raptor outlook, and Inglis Falls Arboretum — are in adjacent Georgian Bluffs Township and not part of the city. Harrison Park's deer park is open daily as a small captive-deer enclosure for nature interpretation, especially with kids.
