Hiking.

The Bruce Trail's Beaver Valley club section carries the main trail through the Municipality of Meaford as it traces the escarpment edges of the Beaver Valley between Blantyre, south of town, and Lavender further south — part of the more than 900 km route from Queenston on the Niagara River to Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula. North of Meaford on the Sydenham boundary, Hibou Conservation Area adds a Grey Sauble shoreline and forest loop.

01 — What to know

The brief.

The Beaver Valley section is one of the iconic stretches of the main trail. Inside the Municipality of Meaford, the Bruce Trail runs the western and eastern escarpment edges of the upper Beaver Valley, with side trails dropping into the valley floor and onto the Bruce Trail Conservancy's Beaver Valley club waypoints.

The 4th Canadian Division Training Centre — CFB Meaford — closes a large block of the township's south Georgian Bay shoreline east of town to public access, so trail traffic concentrates inland on the escarpment rather than along the bay shore. May through October is the most accessible window; January through March supports winter hiking and snowshoeing on the Beaver Valley section.

Iconic Beaver Valley anchors south of Meaford — Eugenia Falls and Old Baldy — sit in Grey Highlands rather than Meaford township.
