Wildlife Viewing.

Pinery's oak savannah is one of southern Ontario's significant habitats for declining oak-savannah specialists — red-headed woodpecker and eastern towhee — and the park's Carolinian forest carries spring warbler migration through May. Eastern hognose snake and white-tailed deer are present through the warm-weather months, and L Lake Conservation Area at Thedford supports waterfowl staging and wetland birds.

Wildlife Viewing in Lambton Shores
01 — What to know

The brief.

Spring warbler migration through Pinery's Carolinian forest peaks in May; resident oak-savannah birds are present through the warm-weather months. The park's Wilderness Trail and Carolinian Trail give the most concentrated savannah-and-Carolinian birding.

Eastern hognose snake is present but secretive; sightings depend on weather and time of day. Daily vehicle permit or Ontario Parks pass required at Pinery's gates.

L Lake Conservation Area at Thedford is the inland wetland complement — waterfowl staging, wetland birds. Fall salmon runs at the Grand Bend pier add a different wildlife frame on the same shoreline.
