Freshwater Fishing.
The Lake Huron pier and shoreline at Grand Bend open to the open-water fishery in Fisheries Management Zone 13 — chinook and coho salmon, rainbow trout, lake trout, walleye, and brown trout from the pier and the adjacent shoreline. Inland, the Ausable River and the Old Ausable Channel through Pinery carry a warmwater fishery for smallmouth bass, pike, and panfish.
The brief.
Lake Huron at Grand Bend sits in FMZ 13 (Lake Huron main basin). FMZ 13 seasons, limits, and bait restrictions per the Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary apply, and a valid Ontario Fishing Licence is required.
Spring (April–May) and fall (September–November) are the rainbow-trout and salmon windows on Lake Huron; the chinook and coho fall run is the marquee window at the Grand Bend pier. Inland, the Ausable and the Old Ausable Channel carry warmwater species year-round per FMZ 13 (with seasonal closures); Pinery's Riverside and Dunes campgrounds front the channel for direct shore access.
Daily vehicle permit or Ontario Parks pass required at Pinery's gates.
