Surf & Wind.

Station Beach has been named one of Canada's top destinations for surfing by Surfer Today — the South Pier acts as a wind block that lets northwesterly Lake Huron swell wrap around it, and the resulting break sits a two-minute drive or ten-minute walk from the downtown core. Spring (after ice-out) and fall (before ice forms) bring the most consistent surf, when northwesterly storms drive open-fetch swell into the Bruce County coast.

01 — What to know

The brief.

The most consistent surf at Station Beach comes in spring and fall, when northwesterly storms generate the steep, peeling waves the beach is known for; in winter, ice forms along the shore and shuts the break down. Local businesses offer board rentals; washrooms and heated showers run at the beach itself, and parking is free with Station Beach as the access.

Northwesterly summer wind days drive reliable windsurfing and kitesurfing on the same exposed shoreline. Cold-water surf gear is essential outside high summer — Lake Huron warms only briefly through July and August.
