Freshwater Fishing.
The Credit River from the Forks of the Credit downstream is one of southern Ontario's premier migratory rainbow trout (steelhead) and resident brown trout fisheries. Inside Halton Hills the river runs past Norval and bends below Glen Williams' historic woollen mill — accessible reaches without a boat, fished hardest during the spring steelhead run from mid-March through April and again in October and November.
The brief.
Halton Hills sits in Fisheries Management Zone 16 (Halton/Peel) — the Credit River and its tributaries are the headline water. Resident brown trout, brook trout, and rainbow trout are joined by migratory rainbow trout (steelhead) from Lake Ontario in spring and fall.
Tributary sanctuary closures protect spawning fish from late September through end of April; check the Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary for the specific closure dates and species rules each season. Terra Cotta Conservation Area runs a stocked rainbow trout pond as a separate, structured family-friendly option.
Hilton Falls Reservoir holds bass and panfish on the southern boundary. A valid Ontario fishing licence is required.
