Cross-Country & Nordic.

The Trans Canada Trail (Gravenhurst / Bethune section) runs through town along the former rail corridor and is groomed for classic cross-country skiing through the winter season. The system is municipal, free, and walk-up — bring-your-own equipment, no chalet ticket.

The same trail base hosts walking and rail-trail cycling the rest of the year.

01 — What to know

The brief.

Reliable Canadian Shield snow cover holds the season together from mid-December through early March; lake-effect snow off Georgian Bay often boosts winter totals. The corridor is classic-track only — no skate-skiing tracks documented on the Bethune section — and is shared with snowshoers and walkers in winter, so multi-use yielding rules apply.

Access points are at the main trailheads through town (the corridor follows the former rail right-of-way past the Bethune Memorial House neighbourhood). Access is free and walk-up; the Town of Gravenhurst maintains the grooming.
