Walking & Strolling.

Belfountain village sits on the West Credit River where Belfountain Conservation Area carries a suspension bridge, the Trimble Mill ruins, and 1900s ornamental garden features on a five-hectare CVC property — a short walking loop through the village core. Alton further north anchors the Alton Mill Arts Centre, a restored 1881 woollen mill housing artist studios and galleries beside the Mill Pond.

Cheltenham village to the south sits at the southern trailhead of the Cheltenham Badlands.

Walking & Strolling in Caledon
01 — What to know

The brief.

The Belfountain–Alton–Cheltenham–Inglewood village circuit is the in-Caledon walking layer that pairs with the Bruce Trail and Caledon Trailway corridors. Belfountain CA is small (5 hectares) and reservation-required in summer; the suspension bridge over the West Credit cascade and the ornamental gardens make it the most photographed village stop.

Alton's Mill Pond loop and the Alton Mill Arts Centre give a year-round indoor-outdoor combination — the Arts Centre's artist studios and galleries stay open through winter. Cheltenham village's 19th-century mill-village fabric is walkable in 30 minutes.

The Caledon Trailway runs flat, crushed-stone, and gentler than the Bruce Trail; gentler segments through the villages give walkers a low-stress connector. Year-round on the village walks; Belfountain CA's reservation system runs in summer.
