Walking & Strolling.

The Welland Canals Parkway Trail starts at the St. Catharines Museum & Welland Canals Centre at Lock 3 and runs paved south alongside the canal — a flat canal-side walking path with ocean ships transiting Lock 3 beside the trail.

At Port Dalhousie, Lakeside Park carries the city's historic harbour walk: the 1898–1905 Lakeside Park carousel, the sand beach and pier, the Port Dalhousie Range Front and Range Rear lighthouses, and Martindale Pond beside the harbour — the Royal Canadian Henley course since 1903.

Walking & Strolling in St. Catharines
01 — What to know

The brief.

Most of St. Catharines's central walking is concentrated on three nodes: the Welland Canals Parkway Trail at Lock 3 (year-round, paved, flat), the Port Dalhousie waterfront (Lakeside Park, carousel, lighthouses, Henley course on Martindale Pond), and the Morningstar Mill grounds at DeCew Falls (a short walk on the Twelve Mile Creek bank above the upper falls, with the working grist mill open in season).

Port Dalhousie is the original First Welland Canal terminus and the surviving Lock 1 of the Second and Third Welland Canals is visible at the harbour. The Welland Canals Parkway is non-motorized — walking, cycling, and similar uses — and stays accessible year-round; the Port Dalhousie waterfront is comfortable May through October.

Morningstar Mill operates seasonally (typically May through October, weekends).
