Cycling.
Harrowsmith is the rail-trail crossroads of South Frontenac — the point where the 81-kilometre Cataraqui Trail (running east from Strathcona to Smiths Falls) meets the K&P Trail (running north from the City of Kingston through Hartington, Verona, and on to Sharbot Lake). Both surfaces are stone-dust and improved gravel; both form part of the Trans Canada Trail.
From the junction you can choose direction.
The brief.
The Cataraqui Trail is stewarded by the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority and runs 81 km on the abandoned CN Napanee–Smiths Falls subdivision; the K&P Trail is stewarded by Frontenac County and follows the abandoned 1884 Kingston & Pembroke Railway corridor. Both are multi-use corridors — cyclists share the surface with walkers, snowmobilers in winter, and (on designated K&P sections) ATV users.
Surface within South Frontenac is largely stone-dust with packed gravel; suitable for hybrid bikes, gravel bikes, and e-bikes; not recommended for road tyres. Best season is May through October.
Sydenham, Verona, and Harrowsmith villages provide rest-and-resupply on the corridor.
