Seasonal Phenomena.

The East Gate at km 55.8 of Highway 60 — just east of Whitney inside the Township of South Algonquin — is the eastern terminus of the Highway 60 Corridor fall-colour drive. From the gate west to Dwight, sugar-maple-dominant northern hardwood canopy peaks between late September and mid-October, and the visitors arriving in Whitney each fall do so to drive the corridor at peak.

01 — What to know

The brief.

Peak colour timing is consistent year to year — late September through mid-October — but the precise peak shifts a week or two with weather. The drive is open whether or not the Park's interpretive trails and viewpoints are open, so even off-shoulder fall arrivals carry the canopy.

A daily Park vehicle permit is required at the East Gate for any stop inside the Park. Roadside pullouts along the corridor get crowded on peak weekends; mid-week early-morning or late-afternoon driving avoids the worst congestion.

Lake of Two Rivers, the Visitor Centre at km 43, and Booth's Rock Trail are common pullout points along the route.
