Paddling — Whitewater.
The Minden Wild Water Preserve sits on a 100-acre stretch of the Gull River about 7 km northeast of the village of Minden, off Horseshoe Lake Road. The whitewater section runs roughly 800 metres at Class II to III, on a permanent slalom-gate system upgraded with about $2 million of work completed in 2014.
The course hosted the Canoe Slalom World Cup in 1991, 1993, and 1997, and the canoe slalom debut at the 2015 Pan American Games — the furthest Pan Am venue from Toronto, at about 191 km.
The brief.
The preserve operates under Whitewater Ontario; the Wikipedia and tourism listings use both "Wild Water Preserve" and "Whitewater Preserve" — same site. Park-and-play kayaking and open-canoe paddling run alongside scheduled training and competition through summer.
The signature event calendar includes slalom races and the Open Canoe Slalom Race the first weekend after Labour Day. The Class II–III rating means competent paddlers with whitewater experience and proper gear; this is not a beginner river — peak flows after summer thunderstorms can push features harder than the rated baseline.
The 100-acre park itself includes trails alongside the rapids; spectators can watch from the riverbank during events.
