Merrickville-Wolford.
Merrickville-Wolford straddles the Rideau River where the Rideau Canal's three-lock flight (Locks 21–23) lifts boats 7.4 m through the centre of the village. Parks Canada designates Merrickville the "Jewel of the Rideau Canal" — the 1832 Merrickville Blockhouse NHS, the largest blockhouse on the canal and the second-largest surviving in Canada, anchors the lockstation greenspace at Mill Street, and the heritage downtown of 19th-century stone-and-brick Victorian buildings radiates outward from Blockhouse Park.
The Merrickville Ruins, an industrial-era mill site, sit between the canal and the river just steps from the locks. South of the village, the Limerick Forest North Tract carries a boardwalk out into Hanlan's Marsh — a 1,500-hectare provincially significant wetland and ANSI — and the Rideau Migratory Bird Sanctuary, designated by the Canadian Wildlife Service in 1957, covers 5.6 km of canal and river starting at the village edge.
Ottawa is about an hour north; Brockville and the St. Lawrence are 50 minutes south.
Merrickville-Wolford sits on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe and Algonquin Nations.

Hiking
The Quarry Line traces a 10 km loop from the Blockhouse along Mill Street through cedar woodland and historic stone-quarry markers, and the Merrickville Limerick Trail runs 5–15 km return from a trailhead about 2.5 km east of the Blockhouse along Scotch Line into Limerick Forest. The Limerick Forest North Tract carries a boardwalk to a viewing platform over Hanlan's Marsh — a 1,500 ha provincially significant wetland and ANSI. Closer in, the RiverWalk circles 0.5–1 km within the Rideau Migratory Bird Sanctuary by the village beach, the Woodland Toboggan Hill Loop adds 1–1.5 km of woodland walking, and Dam to Depot makes a 1.5 km return crossing the lock gates on the canal's north side.

Most of the central walking concentrates on the Merrickville lockstation greenspace at Locks 21–23 and the heritage downtown radiating from Blockhouse Park. The Merrickville Ruins, an industrial-era mill site between the canal and the river, sit on a 0.5 km loop accessible from St. Lawrence Street. The Township's Historic Properties walks pull together 1–5 km loops along paved village streets through the 19th-century stone-and-brick Victorian core, and the 1 km Story Trail integrates a children's picture-book route into the Woodland-Toboggan Hill complex. The lockstation interior is walkable along the lock gates from May through October during navigation season.

The Rideau Migratory Bird Sanctuary, designated by the Canadian Wildlife Service in 1957, begins within the Village of Merrickville and extends 5.6 km west and southwest along the canal and river. Up to 1,000 Canada geese and 1,000 ducks at a time use the sanctuary in fall — mallard, American black duck, blue-winged teal, and ring-necked duck are the most common species, with tundra swan and several mergansers logged seasonally. South of the village, the Limerick Forest North Tract boardwalk reaches a viewing platform over Hanlan's Marsh — 1,500 ha of bog, swamp, and marsh designated a Provincially Significant Wetland and ANSI.

Three Township-promoted cycling loops radiate from Blockhouse Park. The Merrickville to Burritts Rapids loop runs 17.6 km return along the Rideau Canal corridor, passing three locks and reaching the Henry Street Public Beach. The Merrickville to Eastons Corners loop runs 29.6 km on quiet backroads west of the village. A short heritage-village loop through the Victorian downtown core completes the trio. The Rideau Heritage Route designates the canal-side corridor through Merrickville as a scenic drive — equally rideable for road and e-bike touring.

The Merrickville public beach and boat launch put paddlers directly into the Rideau Canal beside Locks 21–23, with the Rideau Migratory Bird Sanctuary covering 5.6 km of canal and river immediately upstream from the village. The Township's RiverPaddle route promotes recreational paddling on the village reach of the Rideau, and the canal corridor opens 202 km of multi-day paddling extension upstream toward Smiths Falls and Westport or downstream toward Kingston. Locking through Locks 21–23 is permitted for paddlers under the Parks Canada navigation-season schedule.

The 1832 Merrickville Blockhouse stands at the centre of the lockstation greenspace on Mill Street — the largest blockhouse built on the Rideau Canal, one of six blockhouses Colonel John By built at vulnerable points along the route, and the second-largest surviving blockhouse in Canada. It was designated a National Historic Site on May 29, 1939, and now houses a museum on canal construction and village history. Just outside its walls, the three-lock flight at Locks 21–23 lifts boats 7.4 m through the village as part of the 202 km UNESCO-inscribed Rideau Canal. The 19th-century stone-and-brick Victorian downtown radiates out from Blockhouse Park, and the Merrickville Ruins — an industrial mill site between the canal and the river — sit a short walk away.
