Conestogo Lake is the largest open water in Wellington County north of Guelph — a 7.3 km² GRCA-managed reservoir behind the 1958 Conestogo Dam, with power boating, sailing, and water skiing all permitted on the open reservoir and a public boat launch at the Conestogo Lake Conservation Area on the south shore.

Best season is May through October, lining up with the conservation-area season and the warmest water. Power boating, sailing, and water skiing are all in the mix on the open reservoir; the boat launch at the Conestogo Lake Conservation Area is the main public ramp.
Because the reservoir is operated for flood control and downstream flow augmentation, water level draws down across summer and into fall — navigable depth and ramp conditions shift from spring high water to late-season low water, and shallow back-bays in particular can become unusable. The reservoir has no ocean swell or river current; everything is open-water on a managed lake.
