Paddling — Flatwater.

Lake of Bays — the second-largest lake in Muskoka — is the township's defining feature: a multi-arm flatwater body with public launches at Dwight Bay, Baysville, and Dorset. The Oxtongue River flows out of Algonquin's western edge past Ragged Falls and into Lake of Bays at Dwight, a documented intermediate-water canoe route from Oxtongue Lake.

01 — What to know

The brief.

The Oxtongue Lake to Lake of Bays canoe route is an intermediate-water trip with portages around Ragged Falls and other rapids — best paddled late May through mid-October once spring melt has eased. Lake of Bays itself is a multi-arm lake with several distinct bays; treat each as its own paddling environment with its own wind exposure.

Limberlost Forest holds 20 reserve lakes inside the 10,000+ acres, with on-site canoe rentals available through the season. East along Highway 60, Algonquin Provincial Park's Canoe Lake (km 14.1), Smoke Lake, and Tea Lake are the marquee Highway 60 launches for multi-day interior canoe trips — those launches are inside the Park boundary, accessed from Lake of Bays township via Dwight, and require advance reservations through the Ontario Parks system.
