Paddling — Sea & Coastal.
Kingston is the western launch point of the Thousand Islands Paddling Trail — nine routes following the St. Lawrence River from Kingston downstream to Brockville, coordinated by the Frontenac Arch Biosphere with mapped access points, trip times, and hazards.
From Confederation Basin and Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, sea kayak and SUP launches put paddlers into Kingston Harbour and the inner St. Lawrence on the same waters that carry the Wolfe Island ferry from the foot of Queen Street.
The brief.
The Thousand Islands Paddling Trail is the regional flagship — nine routes from Kingston east, with Frontenac Arch Biosphere maps showing access points, trip times, and hazards. Thousand Islands National Park's paddler-access cabins and campsites lie downstream around Mallorytown Landing in the Leeds and the Thousand Islands township — a multi-day trip from Kingston, not a Kingston day-paddle product.
From Kingston itself, sheltered launches at Confederation Basin and Portsmouth Olympic Harbour open into Kingston Harbour and the inner St. Lawrence; the open-water crossing toward Wolfe Island and Howe Island is exposed to Lake Ontario weather and shipping traffic.
Best season is June through September; July and August are the most popular Thousand Islands paddling months.
