Snow Adventure.
Sunset Trail Riders OFSC district 17 is one of Ontario's least-congested snowmobile networks, with hundreds of kilometres of TOPS and local trail radiating north from Kenora to Minaki and across central and northern Lake of the Woods — and a documented connection west into the Manitoba snowmobile trail system. Lake of the Woods carries the ice-fishing half of the winter calendar, with ice cover typically running December through April.
The brief.
Sunset Trail Riders is the OFSC district covering Kenora-area snowmobiling; the network is documented as one of the province's least-congested, with TOPS and local trail running north to Minaki and across the lake system to a Manitoba trail-system tie-in. An OFSC permit is required and is obtained at permits.ofsc.on.ca.
On the ice-fishing side, the FMZ 5 walleye protected slot and named-bay lake-trout tag requirements apply year-round (see Fishing sub-guide). The reliable winter window is mid-December through March for snowmobiling and ice-fishing both; cross-country and snowshoe options run on local Kenora Nordic & Biathlon Club trails.
