Goderich Harbour is one of the working harbours on the southeast Lake Huron coast — a deep-draft commercial harbour beneath the 1847 lighthouse, with a marina and the institutional Goderich Sailing Club at the foot of the bluff. Sailors run out across the Lake Huron east shore from the harbour mouth, sharing the basin with the Compass Minerals (Sifto) salt-mine pier — the visible top end of an underground operation extending under Lake Huron.
The brief.
The Goderich sailing season runs roughly May through October. Snug Harbour Marina inside the harbour is the main visitor-craft tie-up; the Goderich Sailing Club is the institutional sailing presence at the harbour.
Lake Huron's east-shore waters are open and exposed once outside the harbour mouth — the harbour itself is sheltered by the breakwater and bluff. The harbour shares space with active commercial / salt-export traffic; the Compass Minerals (Sifto) Goderich salt-mine pier is the most visible industrial neighbour.
There is no canal-style locked navigation system here; cruising is open Lake Huron only.
